& OUR BOARD
KNPS Committees
Natural History Committee
The Natural History Committee leads regular guided outings in the Kimberley Nature Park, offering visitors a chance to explore and learn about the park’s diverse flora and fauna. The committee also conducts detailed ecological inventories, either directly or through contracted specialists, to better understand the biodiversity of specific areas. Education initiatives and invasive plant control efforts further support the long-term health of the park. In addition, ongoing wildlife camera and trail counter projects help track animal activity and human use, providing valuable insights into how the park is experienced and shared by both wildlife and people.
Community Engagement & Events Committee
This committee is all about bringing people together and raising awareness of the valuable work KNPS does year-round. We’re excited to grow our membership, refresh our website as a key resource, boost our social media presence, and host engaging events for all ages - think guided hikes, movie nights, school projects, summer markets, and sports and cultural activities in the Nature Park. Fun times!
Trails & Structures Committee
The Trails and Structures found in the KNP are maintained and constructed by members of the Society, often conjunction with the Kimberley Trails Society. Tasks included clearing downed trees, repairing damaged trails, building boardwalks, bridges.
Horse Barn Valley Committee
The Kimberley Nature Park holds an agreement with the Recreation Sites and Trails BC to manage and steward the area known as Horse Barn Valley. The same principles that guide the KNPS in managing the KNP are employed in Horse Barn Valley.
Interface Fire Mitigation Committee
This committee liaises with the Fire Chief, Consultants, Contractors, Licensees, Ministry of Forests and the City Councillor representative on mitigating the risk from wildfire in the KNP. Field tours to look at planned or treated areas are part of work of this committee.

KNPS Board of Directors

Jessica Harvey
President
Jessica is an avid hiker and outdoors- person, as well as a professional wildlife and riparian biologist who has been working throughout Western Canada for the last 15 years.
While spending as much time as possible outdoors in our beautiful community with her two golden retrievers, Jessica is passionate about the outdoors and balancing human recreation needs with sustainable development and habitat protection.
Eager to contribute to a much-loved community resource, Jessica brings her science background and naturalist spirit to the board in support of the KNPS goals of ecological stewardship and enhancement of biodiversity.

Hasitha Muhandiram
Director
Hasi believes authentic leadership stems from diverse perspectives and community commitment. Raised in rural Sri Lanka, he arrived in Canada understanding that belonging is built through service.
He found his purpose in the region's heartbeat: serving at the food bank, responding with Search & Rescue, supporting mental health advocacy and protecting what makes Kimberley special. And besides KNPS he is also a board director of Wildsight, and the Cranbrook Food Bank.
With over 15 years leading international businesses and studies in Sustainable Business, he brings strategic expertise to his role. As a Business Consultant and Property Manager across the East Kootenays, he strengthens the region while ensuring the Kimberley Nature Park remains a sanctuary where nature and community flourish.
For Hasi, it's about honouring the land and reciprocating the love this community has shown him.

Eva M Boehringer
Vice-President
Eva is a Registered Professional Biologist and currently serves as Vice President of the Kimberley Nature Park Society. She is also an avid climber who loves spending time outdoors, and you’ll often find her in the Nature Park and Horsebarn Valley hiking, climbing, and observing plants, birds, and wildlife.
She has over 25 years of experience in environmental work, but what really drives her is being out on the land and helping care for the places our community values. Through KNPS, Eva helps look after the Society’s camera trap program and manage wildlife data that supports conservation and education efforts.
She is passionate about protecting and enhancing the Kimberley Nature Park for future generations and enjoys working with fellow board members, volunteers, and community members to support stewardship, learning, and responsible recreation.

Sharon Moorcroft
Director
As far as she can remember, Sharon has always been passionate about nature and the outdoors. Sharon is semi-retired from a real estate career near Kingston, Ontario, and made Kimberley her home in 2023. She feels fortunate to have settled in such a wonderful community, surrounded by so much natural beauty and wilderness.
Sharon cares about the environment, minimizing our footprint, and living sustainably. She loves to spend her time birdwatching, hiking, biking, and Nordic skiing in the winter. In addition to the KNPS, Sharon is also a board director of Wildsight Kimberley/Cranbrook.
